It seems like many of us go all out to show mom how much we love her on Mother’s Day, but how about dad? Does he have a collection of ties hanging in the closet? Is he the one cooking at the grill for the get together? At the VIP offices, we thought back to outings we’ve been a part of and have a few suggestions for Father’s Day ideas in Oklahoma to make this holiday a memorable one for dad.
Oklahoma Casino Golf Courses
Take dad golfing at any of the beautiful casino golf courses in the Oklahoma area. Finish your round with a beer and casual meal in the grill or a more elegant dinner in a signature steak house. And top off the day with a few hands of blackjack in the casino. Imagine his surprise when you pull up to the door in a VIP Limo and the chauffeur loads his clubs in the back.
No matter where you live in Oklahoma, there’s a casino and course near you. A few options are:
- Winstar World Casino in Thackerville located off of I-35 in southern Oklahoma. Winstar offers a gorgeous golf course, a wide variety of casual dining options and a 500,000 square foot casino.
- FireLake Grand Casino in Shawnee features a newly remodeled pro shop, The Bistro Grill and Lucky 7’s Bar and casino.
- Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa features the Cherokee Hills Golf Course which was recently ranked in the top 40 casino golf courses in the US. In addition to several casual dining establishments, Hard Rock Tulsa features McGill’s on 19 for an unforgettable fine-dining experience.
- Downstream Casino Resort in Quapaw sits on the Oklahoma/Missouri border. In the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, enjoy 18 holes on the Eagle Creek Golf course. Downstream offers 5 different dining experiences to choose from and a casino featuring the newest gaming machines and the most stylish poker room in Oklahoma.
Minor League Baseball in Oklahoma
Golf not his sport? How about a baseball game? Oklahoma has two beautiful minor league ballparks to choose from, home of the Oklahoma City Redhawks and the Tulsa Drillers. Enjoy a hot dog, cold beer and the 7th inning stretch. Each ballpark is surrounded by fabulous restaurants all within walking distance should you decide to forego the traditional hotdog and grab dinner before or after the game.
Is Dad more of a history buff than sports jock? Why not spend the day museum hopping? In the Oklahoma City area, tour the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, the OKC Museum of Art or the Oklahoma History Center. The Sam Noble Museum of Natural History in Norman is well worth adding to the list for consideration. If you’re planning your museum tours in the northeast part of the state, Tulsa Air and Space Museum, Oklahoma Aquarium, Gilcrease Museum, Philbrook Museum of Art and Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. Check with each museum for hours of operation and any Father’s Day promotions they may be running.
